Yesterday was the first time since I entered med school that I felt like a patient myself. It was rather terrifying; for a split moment I felt like I was about to pass out.
Blood donation, which was uneventful because my haemoglobin count was acceptable, and the nurse eventually found my vein.
Then, ate 2 guava slices, nearly fell asleep in the anat museum, and went for anatomy practical. All in all, a pretty normal day.
As I was bending over trying to locate the obturator internus muscle, everything turned really fuzzy and my ears started ringing. I ended up collapsing really unglamorously on the floor of the anatomy hall next to some puddle of fluid (I don't want to know what it was) attempting to get the blood back to my brain.
It was scary, especially cause it happened in the anat hall. Anat prac was ultra fail too because within 15 minutes of getting back into the hall, I started feeling queasy again :/
We concluded it was hypovolemic shock due to the blood donation and decreased venous return from standing too long.
Lesson learnt, guava slices are good for intestinal motility but they don't exactly help to replace fluid and electrolytes.
Much thanks for all the help and concern, I appreciate it alot. It really felt like I was amongst future doctors (:
I ponned school today, slept for nearly 15 hours, and have 2 lectures left to webcast D:
