Just returned from a trip to Taiwan with Shun and Zhiying. It was plenty of fun, notwithstanding the fact that we spent the entire holiday just eating and shopping. There wasn't a point that I felt hungry during the trip! And bubble tea was like hypertensive medication; a necessary daily dosage. The streets of Taiwan bear a striking resemblance to those of Hong Kong, but the roads were alot messier. The night markets were a super exciting experience though, full of food and crazy adorable things (you catch a glimpse of spongebob/elmo/pooh etc. everywhere you turn). We also went into one of the Taipei hospitals in Ximending wanting to buy medications for Shun, but we realized that medicine in Taipei is very centred on TCM. The hospital was very old and rather like those 古代 hospitals you see in 1960s drama serials, it gave me a sort of 亲切感 though.
Returned to Singapore just in time to tune in to the results of the General Elections, and I was really sad to hear that the PAP Aljunied team had lost. After attending the WP rally with Laine some time back, I wasn't convinced that WP had a concrete plan in place because most of the rally was spent talking about the flaws of the PAP. I'm full of admiration for minister George Yeo though; his graciousness and humility were displayed during his concession speech and recent media conference. It's sad that we have to lose such an outstanding foreign minister to pave way for a stronger opposition voice in parliament.
Made a trip back to NJ yesterday evening to spy on the Aristal technical rehearsal haha. Even though we only managed to catch a glimpse of the WD JH item, I'm heartened that the standards of NJWD are so high (: Also met many of my former students who are already SH1 omg, and I'm really glad that they're doing well. The former chem class rep of JH305 actually topped the cohort in 3 subjects! Actually the news is not very surprising because she is intelligent and extremely hardworking. She once shared with me that she had wanted to do Medicine since she was 6, and I have faith that she will be able to achieve that dream (:
