Jordan is nothing like what I would've expected. It's much less developed than the other Middle Eastern countries we've been to, and the culture here is really quite different. Everyone seems to be rather aggressive. We just got out of the airport and wanted to board a taxi, but this guy appeared out of nowhere to help us with our luggage, and then demanded for a tip.
The weather here's quite awful too; it's windy, and it's been raining so everything's wet and gloomy >.<
The currency here is dinar, and 1 dinar is equivalent to 1 euro (that's $2). The stuff here is quite expensive because the cheapest thing is 1 dinar unless you go to the small convenience shops. The fact that the cost of living here's so high is quite unimaginable considering the quality of living's not very high. There's not much construction going on, but then again I'm not one to judge because we haven't seen the whole city yet.
We made a trip to Petra yesterday though, one of the new 7 wonders of the world. It was a 3 hour ride from Amman, but the trip was definitely worth it. Petra is a city carved into stone by the Nabataeans. And part of the structures are actually due to nature, like we saw a few gorges that were a result of flash floods. (I don't know the geography of it all). There were pretty good samples of sedimentary rocks too haha.
The sight's really breathtaking because all the architecture is so precise and the carvings are so intricate. It was really hard to imagine that people actually lived there some 2000 years ago.
Only pictures would do it justice, but I've been too lazy to upload them heh.
